Design engaging dungeon adventures, backed by game design theory

Dungeon Design Essentials: Moments is a short three-lesson course designed to give adventure writers like you a framework for designing traditional dungeon-crawling experiences that players will find entertaining, thrilling, and memorable.

This course draws on concepts from academic and popular writing about game design and combines them with instructor Sersa Victory's own experience in designing bestselling dungeon modules for tabletop roleplaying games.

This is a must-take course for narrative and game designers of all levels.

In this course, you'll learn the following:

  • Why creating play experiences is considered a second-order design problem

  • How to do moment-driven dungeon design

  • What moments are fundamental to the dungeon crawl play experience

  • How to use monsters, traps, puzzles, and treasure to encourage the fundamental dungeon-crawling moments

This is a self-paced, activity-based course
