Meet Your Mentor

Ashley Warren | Director @ Storytelling Collective

Hello, adventurer! I'm Ashley Warren, the founder and director of the Storytelling Collective. I will be serving as the primary mentor for Adventure Writers Academy, but I have invited some of my amazing friends and colleagues in the ttRPG industry to be guest mentors. You'll get to meet them soon.

After a decade working as a journalist, English teacher, magazine editor, content strategist, and creative writer, I found my passion for game and narrative design. In 2017 I began writing and publishing adventures on DMsGuild.com, which quickly led to large-scale projects like the Uncaged anthology and the RPG Writer Workshop! Since then, I've been fortunate to work with some of the biggest ttRPG publishers, including co-authoring Icewind Dale: Rime of the Frostmaiden (WOTC), Heckna! (Hit Point Press), and Legendlore (Onyx Path Publishing).

For several years now, I've served as a mentor for creative writers around the world. I specialize in helping writers develop and hone their creative process. I am here to be YOUR cheerleader in the world of ttRPG creation and I can't wait to get to know you!

FAQ

  • When does my annual membership start and end?

    The year-long time frame for Adventure Writers Academy begins the day you register! For example, if you enroll on July 12, 2023, you'll be a member until July 12, 2024 (and hopefully you'll decide to continue with us next year!).

  • How does an AWA Write Your First Adventure cohort differ from the standard program?

    The AWA cohorts for Write Your First Adventure provide more hands-on support and accountability for your specific project. Our team will also assemble bundles with your adventures after each cohort, rather than the twice-a-year bundle schedule for the standard program.

  • How does the mentorship component work?

    You'll receive mentorship through the private community (where our team will actively answer your questions and share resources with you frequently) and through the bi-monthly mentorship calls with the StoCo team and guest mentors. Plus, as you get to know your fellow Academy members, you'll develop a supportive community!

  • Is there an option for one-on-one mentorship?

    Currently, mentorship is provided through group calls and the private community; however, if there is enough interest in one-on-one mentorship, we will definitely consider making that available.

  • If I choose the monthly payment option, does that mean I can cancel at any time?

    The monthly payment option still requires an annual commitment. If you need to leave the program early, please email [email protected] so we can provide you with some options.

"This program is amazing"

@Grumpy_DMs

I wrote my first published D&D adventure through this program and it has sold nearly 500 copies. This program is amazing and worth completing if you want to get published or just want help getting your adventure expertly crafted.

"Thoughtful in its lesson approach"

@NandoEdits

So I did the fall workshop for Storytelling Collective and I absolutely loved it! I found it so incredibly thoughtful in its lesson approach. I learned so much and highly recommend anyone looking to learn how to publish their own DND adventures / Cthulhu Scenarios to give them a look.

"Empowering and inspiring"

Jamie Rhodes

Being part of the RPG Writer Workshop  was empowering and inspiring. It fueled my desire to work in this field and gave me new avenues to pursue in finding paid opportunities as an RPG writer.

"A rewarding creative experience"

Peter Willington

A rewarding creative experience, one I thoroughly recommend other people to try out for themselves.
